Location of La Mare aux Oiseaux

La Mare aux Oiseaux is on the Île de Fédrun, one of the 7 islands which make up the municipality of Saint-Joachim in the Loire-Atlantique region, right in the heart of the Brière Regional Nature Park.
This is where the Loire finishes its journey before flowing into the ocean; this is where the mighty river has created a magical landscape of channels, islands, marshes, mudflats which are revealed at low tide, reed beds and meadows which are flooded for a few days every year.
This place is home to the sacred ibis and the herring gull, the lapwing and the white stilt, hundreds of ducks, shad, eels, elvers and lampreys.
La Mare aux Oiseaux is one of the picturesque thatched cottages on the narrow road which encircles the unspoilt surroundings of the island.
